Meet the Directors


Adam De Venney is the director of bands at Union High School, Union, MS, where he has served since 2007. A native of Columbus, Mississippi, he is a graduate of New Hope High School where he was a member of the New Hope High School Band. Mr. De Venney graduated from Mississippi State University with a BS in Instrumental Music with an emphasis in French horn. While at MSU, Mr. De Venney was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Brass Choir, and Horn Choir.  He also served as drum major for the Famous Maroon Band for four years. In 2012-2013 Mr. De Venney  served as President of the East Central Band Directors Association. He is also a member of Union's Lions Club and County Line Volunteer Fire Department.

 

Katie De Venney is assistant director of bands and color guard instructor at Union High School, Union, MS where she has served since 2007. A native of West Point, she is a graduate of West Point High School where she was a member of the West Point High School Band. Mrs. De Venney graduated from Mississippi State University with a BS in Instrumental Music with an emphasis in clarinet. While at MSU, Mrs. De Venney was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Clarinet Choir, and was the first winner of the MSU Concerto Competition in 2006. She also served as clarinet section leader in the Famous Maroon Band.

 

During the De Venneys’ tenure at Union High School, the band has grown from 54 members in 2007 to 143 members in 2016.  The UHS Band has won six consecutive State Marching Championships in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 along with marching in the 2016 Mississippi Governor's Inaugural Parade. Mr. and Mrs. DeVenney have also served as marching directors for the 2012-2013 Mississippi Lions All-State Band which won the International Marching Championship in Hamburg, Germany. The De Venneys love to travel and spending time with their two cats, Domino and Checker. They are active members of First Baptist Church of Union and play in the church orchestra.
